社会学是 an eye-opening major that deals 与 long standing social problems like income inequality, 性别政策, 教育, environmental justice, 欺凌和种族主义. It is also a vehicle for exploring topics like the Black Lives Matter movement, COVID-19危机, and Universal Health Care. 社会学 Majors learn to conduct their own research by using surveys, carrying out interviews and analyzing data. Students often remember their first sociology course for the rest of their lives. Under the guidance of our 多样化的教师, you will learn about society, you will learn about yourself, and you will learn how to connect the two.

You can use this major to launch a 职业生涯 在社会工作方面, 人类服务, 市场研究, 社会政策, 法律, 教育, 政府, the nonprofit sector and other industries. Some students go directly from graduation into the job market. Others go on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social 研究 and Analysis 与 just one more year of study，或者 Graduate Certificate in Data Collection and Management. These credentials enhance your job marketability. They can also be a stepping stone to a PhD in 社会学.

Undergraduate Programs

社会学学士

A minimum of 120 semester hours of coursework is required for the baccalaureate degree. Students take core courses in theory and research methods and electives on topics such as environmental justice, health and illness and social problems. In the capstone course they carry out their own research project.

A minimum of 120 semester hours of coursework is required for the baccalaureate degree 与 a minimum 3.0 overall GPA, and a minimum 3.0专业GPA. Students who wish to pursue K-6 teacher certification in Elementary Education must apply to and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program.

Students who wish to pursue P-12 teacher certification in Social Studies must apply to and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. Because Praxis exams in this area are heavily weighted towards history, we STRONGLY advise students to include History (as a second major ideally) as a primary component of their program.
